NCERT Class 6 English Writing Chapter 2 Message Writing Question And Answers

A message is a short, informal writing conveying important— information received over the telephone. It is written when the person to whom the message is to be given is not available to take it.

In such a case, the message is given to the person who picks up the telephone. This person then writes the message clearly and to the point. Hence, knowing how to write a message properly is very important.

Points to be Kept in Mind

  • Make a note of the message carefully in a box.
  • Use simple and clear language in your message.
  • Do not give unnecessary information in the message.
  • Always include the name of the caller in the message.
  • Your message should not be in more than 50 words.
  • Remember to read your message to make sure that you have not made any mistake in it.

Format of a Message

Read the following conversation between Mrs. Shobha and Dr. Chetan.

  • Dr. Chetan Hello! Is it Mrs. Poonam?
  • Mrs. Shobha Yes, may I know who am I talking to?
  • Dr. Chetan I am Dr. Chetan. May I talk to Mrs. Poonam, Vice-Principal of XYZ School?
  • Mrs. Shobha Good morning Doctor! I am Shobha, Poonam’s mother. She has gone to meet a colleague of hers and left her phone here. Can I do anything for you?
  • Dr. Chetan Yes, please. She wanted me to confirm my visit to her school for a health talk for students on the coming Monday. Please tell her I shall come as per schedule.
  • Mrs. Shobha Ok Doctor, I shall convey your message to her. Dr Chetan Thank you, Mrs Shobha.

As Mrs. Reema is going to a meeting, she writes the message for Arpita. Write her a message.

Question 1. Read the following conversation between Ragini and Prateek about Parth, Ragini’s brother. Ragini has to go for her tuitions so she leaves the message for Parth. Write her a message.

  • Prateek: Hello! Can I speak to Parth?
  • Ragini: May I please know who is on the line?
  • Prateek: I am Prateek, Parth’s friend.
  • Ragini: Sorry Prateek, he has just gone to a stationery shop. I am Ragini, his sister. I can take the message for him.
  • Prateek: Yes, please. It being Sunday tomorrow, I, along with two friends are going to see the newly released movie XYZ at Utsav Cinema. An extra ticket can be arranged for Parth if he could join us. He should let me know today by 7:00 pm.
  • Ragini: Ok, I shall convey the message to him.

  • Dr Kaushik: Is this A/24, Geeta Colony?
  • Rita: Yes, may I know who is calling?
  • Dr. Kaushik: I am Dr. Priya Kaushik calling from Central Diagnostic Centre. I would like to speak to Mrs. Sneha.
  • Rita: She is not at home right now. I can take the message for her.
  • Dr. Kaushik: Could you please tell her that I have seen all her test reports? They do not show any serious problems and if there would be no improvement, we might take some more tests.

I advise her to continue the same set of medicines for a week and I have fixed her appointment with the cardiologist for four o’clock at the Christ Hospital. She must reach there on time with all her reports. Rita Thank you, Doctor. I will convey to her the same.

Question 4. Manav wants Simran to bring his drawing and sketchbook to school along with a set of oil colours. He calls her but finds out from Sonam that she is not at home. Read the telephone conversation between Manav and Sonam. Manav leaves a message for Simran.
