Pronouns can be classified into the following kinds.

Personal Pronouns

Personal pronouns are used in place of the names of people and things. It must agree with the gender and the number ofthe noun it replaces.

Possessive Pronouns

Possessive pronouns are used to show ownership or possession

Demonstrative Pronouns

‘This’ and ‘These’ are used to refer to people or things that are close to the speaker.

‘That’ and ‘Those’ are used tore treat people or things that are farther away from the speaker.

Relative Pronouns

• Relative Pronouns are those that refer to a noun previously mentioned in the sentence’
• There are five relative pronouns’ Who, Whom, Whose’ Which, That

Reflexive Pronouns

Reflexive Pronouns are those that are used to refer back to a person or thing.

Some reflexive pronouns are Myself, Ourselves, Yourself, Yourself, Itself, Himself, Herself, Themselves.

Reflexive Pronouns For example:

• John said he would go shopping himself
• I have to wash the car mYself
• The cat hurt itself

Indefinite Pronouns

Indefinite pronouns are words that indicate Persons or things in a general way and not a particular person or thing.

Some indefinite Pronouns are

Anybody, Somebody, Nobody, Everybody, One’ None’ Many, Few, etc.

Indefinite Pronouns Example:

• The collage was made by everybody
• Somebody has accepted the job, the vacancy is filled
